10. St Heliers Bathing Sheds

The high popularity of Tamaki Drive for city-wide recreation and tourist use placed a high demand on the area for toilets and bathing sheds. Although an important facility 8 9 10 they had to be placed and designed so they did not compromise the quality of the area.A beach carnival in 1923 raised money for these facilities. Building commenced in 1925, complete for the ladies but considered too expensive so the men had walls only but was completed in 1928. These buildings have heritage protection.
